the BOOTH! @ Brad + Alydia’s Wedding.

We let me tell you this is the BEST the BOOTH! we’ve ever had! (Former the BOOTH patrons, don’t feel so bad you were great too ;-)

It was soooooooo good that we had shut it down so people would hit the dance floor. The DJ was like, where is everybody?

I have to say, Brad, Alydia and company do know to work the BOOTH!

Its always good when a Bride and Groom can get things started. Westsheezy! Or more like Southsheezy!

Joel + Tricia {Wedding} | City Hall, Harris Promenade, San Fernando

I enjoyed the process with Tricia and Joel. the meetings were always great, we always talked non wedding stuff. They just have great hearts, easy to get along with and trouble free…much like us :-) .

We gushed over them already when we posted their engagement photos

The ceremony was no frills, hard core, man and wife business. Very real.

The reception was heartfelt, humorous and fun. Very appropriate.

Unfortunately all good things much come to an end. Fortunately we have photos.

Aaron + Loraine {Engagement} | Port of Spain, Trinidad

We did this e-session with Aaron and Loraine a while (in wedding time) ago, just getting around to posting it.

You will observe the green box. Now there is a romantic story connected to the green box, however we don’t want to mess it up by telling it ourselves so we’re going to let either Aaron or Loraine comment with the story below and if they do we’ll update the post.

All we can say is the box is functional as well :-)

*UPDATE*

Loraine read my post and sent the story!!! Here its is;

The green box -

“ Hi A !” I would excitedly greet him, peering up at him as if looking at the sky.
“Hi Lo!” He would lovingly return looking way down at me.

HiLO- No, not the grocery store, and hopefully not because I am about 1.5ft. LO-wer than him, I like to think it is because the first 2 letters of my name just happen to be LO.
One of the quirks of my finance is that he would ever so often engage in what he calls ‘mischief’. ‘Mischief’ means that he’s found himself some little project that he will hide like a national military secret until his ‘invention’ or ‘Igor’ if you will, is complete. The first trinket he ever brought home, happened to be this green box…later on he would lug home a host of other trinkets including PVC attached to a funnel, an abstract gate etc. I consider myself lucky, his every invention fascinates me.
I remember him grinning ear to ear as he presented me with this first gift. It sparkled green with a red ribbon and I liked that it could open and store things inside; I did not know what I’d put inside…but it was exciting all the same. Then he asked me to stand on it. Sure enough, when I did, I stood 6’3 ft. tall just like him. This was great ! I could see him at eye level; hugs were right around the neck and pecks no longer landed just above his elbow! We laughed with delight; I enjoy this whimsical gift and appreciate how much thought went into it.
The green box continues to be a part of our lives, hopefully for a long time. The other day I used it to determine at what height to place a mirror to make it usable to him. As time passes by we know that A’s green box will be there to assist us and even littler versions of us to sit, reach a sink, or hide a favorite toy.

Loraine

Thanks Loraine!

The colours of this session were so nice we had a hard time turning anything BW but I think the choices fit.

David + Uma {Wedding} | Montpelier Plantation, Nevis

This is a kewl story but I’m giving the short version.

Uma and David contacted us about their wedding about one week before we went on the Central Park shoot / Lake Placid scouting trip.

I’m not sure how many other photogs they spoke too but as chance would have it Uma was in DC when we were there the following week. Thanks to our rental car and *borrowed* GPS we were able to find her and have an impromptu meeting which pretty much sealed the deal.

The wedding was simple but wonderful and Nevis was great. Plus I do have friends there which made it even greater. Apart from the fact Liat managed to lose my luggage EVEN THOUGH at the end I was the only man on the plane, I’m positive Brens and I will be back there sometime.

I had to include this mini story/pictorial here…so were on the beach doing portraits, David runs over to the little Groom’s room for a minute, all of a sudden, these cows that were across from us on the beach (earlier they were making tons of noise) walk on to the shore and start to walk directly toward Uma. I mean it was almost as if she had called them over. The mom cow came up to her, Uma stooped and said something to her, then the calves came and joined the mama cow. After a minute the cow just turned around and walked away. It was almost as if she had come to ask how the wedding was turning out. Strange but noice.

David + Uma {Wedding}

David missed the whole cow episode but was happy to be back.

Jonathan + Ambika {Wedding} | Lake Placid Lodge, New York

I would like to start this post by thanking a few people;

Thank you Jon and Ambika for giving us the opportunity to be at your wedding (Sorry we had to leave in the wee hours of the morning the next day and missed the escapade on the lake).

Thank you Abby and Neil for making that 5 and half hour drive with us the month before to scout the location in Lake Placid and for hosting Gbenga and I before the wedding. Your hospitality was perfect and you do have a gift for taking care of people. We should go back to Chair 6 sometime.

Thank you Brens, my lovely wife for supporting the idea of driving up there the month before, all my good ideas come from you.

Thank you Gbenga being there and for filling Ayinde’s shoes. (You do remember Gbenga right? From this post) I know they were big but you did an excellent Job. Gbenga was my second shooter for the wedding after Ayinde couldn’t make it. He took a four hour bus ride from DC just to shoot it with me. PLUS he was the best company ever on the long drive upstate in a cramped Toyota Corolla (I love Toyotas but I’m 6′6.5″, thus most cars are cramped), not to mention a stellar low maintenance assistant :-)

Every time we experience a milestone we have to stop, look back and be appreciative because at the end of the day relationship is more important than photography.

About the photos:

The wedding happened over two days, the first day was a dinner lime and the wedding was the following day

There are many photos and we had a hard time short listing for this post but this is still longest post we’ve ever done.

There are also various interjected detail photos to give context, each one of course will be explained.

This is the temperature outside on the day of the wedding, a toasty 6 degrees…by the time we actually went downstairs for portraits with all the cloud cover and the setting of the sun, I’m sure it was about 3 degrees and later that night…lets just say were were glad the reception was indoors.

Sheldon + Wanda {Wedding} | St John’s, Antigua (CONGRATULATIONS!)

Well this is not so much a full post as it is a delayed congratulation.

Sheldon has been my friend for many years and it seemed like we had been talking about his wedding for just as long. His then fiance, now wife Wanda was always a big fan of our photography and we actually did an engagement session with them way back in ‘08 (Yes, ‘08 is way back in wedding time) and I we knew no matter when and where the wedding was, I had to be there.

Luckily Brenda and I were on our way back home from DC and stopping in Antigua on our way back worked out perfectly.

Sheldon, everything is beautiful in its season. Congratulations.

Sheldon + Wanda {Wedding} Congratulations!

August 12, 2010 - 11:24 am Terri - Oh WOW.... love all but especially that last one. Congrats to the couple.

Dan + Jodie {Wedding} | Sandy Point, Tobago

Jodie and Dan got married exactly one year one week and one day after they first contacted us but it all seems to have come and gone so quickly.

…and I’ve probably said this before but I like small weddings. Why? You get to lime with the bride and groom, things are alot less formal and you have to opportunity to try things you just wouldn’t do with a tightly scheduled big event. It kinda gets you into a different creative zone.

Many of our past brides would testify to hearing the statement “lemme try something” before we try a shot that probably works well on paper but won’t work in real life, its always 50/50. Small weddings especially ones with just the bride and groom hear that three times as much and Jodie and Dan were no exception. Despite my insistence to “try” stuff Jodie and Dan were such a sports, they were all smiles and filled with wedding-y emotion, even with the challenges of the weather that day.

Nes’c was also there to assist me but she ended being more of an”assistant dresser” for Jodie, which Jodie’s Mom appreciated to the point where she said “Where were you when I got married”?!

Much more to say but in summary we like Jodie and Dan.

LOVE Jodie’s nail colour (Had to show it Jodie)

I wanted to try this for a while, not an original idea but made different by white balance, environment and execution. Made possible by a willing bride and groom and an oriental umbrella.

July 13, 2010 - 11:49 pm Gbenga - The last one with the umbrella is definitely my fav. It has some kinda warm and fuzzy feel to it.

July 22, 2010 - 7:31 am Kevin Ancil - the last shot *definitely* has the warm-fuzzy factor up to the max I would have preferred though if their faces were half and half Nonetheless - Noice!!!

July 27, 2010 - 12:29 am Christopher - Nice work on this one Juma, impressed as always and congratulations to the beautiful couple!!! Love the last shOt!

Nichola + Dion {Engagement} | Port of Spain, Trinidad

Nichola, Dion and I have been talking since last year about their wedding and we’ed tried multiple times to do an e-session and failed (Mostly my fault…ok, ok, all my fault) but I’m thinking now that may have been a good thing because when we missed the dates, we had to talk more about it and the more we talked, I realized that our initial ideas for their session just didn’t fit them and we are BIG on fit.

So, we had a Skypeeing (a Skype meeting) and we all agreed to go in a totally different direction for the session and boy did we end up in the right place.

In addition, we have some exciting plans for their wedding (Yaaaaaaaa!) even though we can’t talk about it right now

But what I can talk about is the kewl photos you’re about to see…feel free to ask questions.
